September 6, 2026

Greetings, Cougar Families!

Our year is off to an amazing start! We have a few important events for you this week, so please mark your calendars:

No School, Monday, September 7.

On Tuesday September 8th at 7pm Mr. Halliday will be hosting the first band student and parent virtual zoom meeting of this school year for all students who are in the CMS band program. Please look for a message and meeting link in talking points or written information sent home with your student.

Get on board for the Annual Title I Open Meeting and Curriculum Night! Join us for an evening of Information, Connection, and Partnership on Thursday, September 10th at 6:00 p.m. This is a golden opportunity to learn more about your child’s learning experience, meet their teachers, and discover how we can work together for student success!

This is an important reminder that according to North Carolina State Law, all students are required to be immunized against certain diseases by the 30th day of school. The 30th day of school for us is September 23, 2026. Please make sure that your child is up-to-date on all required immunizations and that you provide the school with documentation of their vaccinations. If your child is not immunized by the 30th day of school, they may be excluded from attending school until their immunization records are in compliance with state law. If your child is exempt from immunizations for medical or religious reasons, you are required to provide documentation to the school. If you have any questions or concerns about immunizations or need assistance in obtaining vaccines for your child, please do not hesitate to contact our school nurse, Ms. Katie Haworth, or our School Social Worker, Mr. J. B. Hallan. We are here to support you in meeting this important requirement.

This week in sports, Tuesday, September 8, boys soccer and volleyball will host Shepard for the season opener. Both games will begin at 4:45 pm. Wednesday, September 9, football and cheerleading will host Lucas for the season opener. The game will begin at 4:45 pm. The cost for all games is $8.00. Elementary age and under are free. Elementary and middle school students must be accompanied by an adult. Per Durham Public Schools Athletic Department, spectators are limited to one small, clear bag.

From the PTA:

Thanks to everyone who came to our first PTA meeting. The energy and ideas are incredible and we are so grateful for this community!

Quarterly newsletter:

You can find out more about our goals for this year, key dates, the budget, and where the money is going in our quarterly newsletter linked here.

"No-Fundraiser" Fundraiser:

If we raise $15,000 by October 15th we will not sell a product this year.

Here are 3 easy ways to help:

  1. Donate at this link. Please also share that link with friends and family to donate directly. You can also buy a PTA membership or t-shirt at the same link.

  2. Share sponsorship opportunities with a local business. Here is a one-page document that explains the opportunities. Information is also on our website here.

  3. Eat at Chipotle on Guess Road on September 21st from 4-8 pm. The restaurant will donate 25% of sales to Carrington PTA during that time frame. In future weeks, we will send you a flyer you need to show at the restaurant. You can also order online for pickup during that time period using the code P7AVDJ7.

Money will go to the following:

  • Teacher Grants – Supplies and materials to keep teachers from paying out of pocket.

  • Student Needs – Hygiene items, nursing supplies, clothing, and field trip scholarships.

  • Student Activities – Reward celebrations and school community events.

  • Electives & Athletics – Arts, clubs, and athletic programs.
